Airborne particulates reduce visibility in the Tahoe Basin
Atmospheric Quality
Air quality in the Lake Tahoe Basin affects visibility, human health (Ozone and Carbon Monoxide), and is a source of pollutants directly to Lake Tahoe which affect its clarity. TERC scientists are employing field measurements and modeling techniques to evaluate the effect of atmospheric quality on lake clarity with particular emphasis on the deposition of pollutants directly into the lake from the air.
