Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences
The Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences (TCES) is a collaboration between Sierra Nevada College and UC Davis in partnership with the Desert Research Institute and the University of Nevada, Reno. The TCES building provides a world-class center for scientific research in the understanding of alpine lakes and watersheds and the preservation of their environmental quality.
The facility is the first building in the Lake Tahoe Basin designed and built to achieve certification under the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, obtaining the highest rating, “platinum.” The Center provides opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to associate with and study under some of the leading scientists in the fields of environmental science and environmental policy.
UC Davis operates the third floor laboratory and the first floor education center. Through the UC Davis Thomas J. Long Foundation Education Center, this facility provides an education resource for the surrounding Lake Tahoe communities and all who visit.
TCES is located at 291 Country Club Drive, on the campus of Sierra Nevada College, off Country Club Drive in Incline Village, Nevada.
TCES Receives Platinum LEED Certification
The building is the first building in Nevada to earn this recognition, one of five laboratories, and one of only 26 facilities in the world to have earned the highest tier of recognition possible for energy- and environmental-design excellence under the LEED program for New Construction (LEED-NC).
