Tour the UC Davis Education Center: Discover what makes Lake Tahoe so special. Find out what is being done with scientific research at the lake, and how this research is being used in restoration and conservation efforts. Learn the role the public plays in efforts to preserve and protect environmental quality. Tours include three interactive display areas:
-
Virtual Research Vessel (R/V John LeConte): Learn how scientists study water quality in Lake Tahoe.
-
Virtual Laboratory: See research in action, view microscopic zooplankton, and learn what we are doing to keep Lake Tahoe blue and healthy.
-
3-D Visualization Lab: Fly through a 3-dimensional model of Lake Tahoe and dive under the water. See the earth and climb inside to see the location of past earthquakes.
Tour the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences (TCES) Building: The TCES is an environmentally-friendly “green” building. On the “Green Tour,” you will see:
-
Sustainable design, construction and landscaping
-
Green Points of Interest throughout the building that highlight water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality features.
Activities: Classrooms, student groups, and visitors can choose from a menu of activities in watershed science, earth science, ecology, geology and plate tectonics, resources and energy, and research. See the Activity Menu (located in the For Teachers section) for details. We also offer classroom visits where we provide a sample of what we offer here within the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences building.
